"Traslasierra"

"Traslasierra". Everyone lives as they want, can or will allow. In that is Tincho (Juan Sasiaín) a puppeteer, son of another man specialized in the art of driving and giving life to the puppets, Rufino (Rufino Martínez) when, after a South American tour, he returns to the Cordovan town that saw him born , Mina Clavero, with his Venezuelan girlfriend Julieta (Ananda Troconis). There, between meals, wines and talks of the three, emerge the memories of the protagonist's childhood, especially the times spent with a friend Coqui (Guadalupe Docampo), which will arouse jealousy to Juliet, although she tries to disguise it. Surrounded by a beautiful landscape, with an unbeatable picture, taking full advantage of the use of outdoor footage for filming, which only uses the interior of a mobile home, some sections of a house, and an old but well-preserved Citroën 3cv van , austerity and the economization of resources is in sight. It does not require much more, and it is good that it should be so, because the aesthetic criterion is in accordance with the narrative. To complete this simplicity of production, a quiet instrumental music is attached, as if to highlight the climates created in each scene. Thus, the director Juan Sasiaín also tells the experiences of a bohemian artist who is satisfied with little and whose only patrimony is the puppets that he moves in an old suitcase. As the realization, the story is tiny, what matters is the warmth that transmits, the intimate that is the narration, the way in which the characters are linked, the dialogues, silences, smiles and looks that cross the screen. The protagonist learns that his girlfriend is pregnant and, on the other hand, the presence of Coqui makes him doubt his love for Juliet. Meanwhile, Rufino is dedicated to advise and contain his son whenever the occasion merits. Tincho does not know what to do, he feels subtly pressured by the situation, although he does not express it. The melodramatic story has a liberating counterpoint, which is the magical world of the puppets and how the children, even in these times, are interested in them. It will be in the mind of the main actor to solve the dilemma presented to him, if he accepts his feelings or makes it easier and less risky.
